Using Tableau Desktop with Amazon Redshift

In this hands-on lab, you'll learn how to load data from Amazon S3 into an Amazon Redshift cluster and use Tableau Desktop for creating visualizations from that dataset. Note: registration and providing your personal contact information to Tableau is required for access to the trial version of Tableau Desktop needed for this lab. You may be contacted by Tableau as per their license agreements, which are provided during installation. Pre-requisites: Familiarity with Data-Warehousing and Business-intelligence concepts and basic knowledge of Amazon Redshift is required for this lab. If you’re not familiar with Amazon Redshift, then you can take the introductory lab “Introduction to Amazon Redshift” at qwiklabs.com. You should also be comfortable using a Windows Server environment via Remote Desktop.

Advanced Amazon Redshift: Data Loading

In this lab, you will experiment with and compare different types of data loading using Amazon Redshift. You will create tables, load data using S3 and Amazon Data Pipeline, load from a remote host, and practice troubleshooting data loading errors. You will conclude the lab by practicing cleanup steps. Pre-requisites: You should be familiar with basic Redshift concepts and database concepts. You should have first taken the introductory lab “Introduction to Amazon Redshift” at qwiklabs.com. Knowledge of SQL statements and JSON formatting is required, although full solution code is provided. For the lab to function as written, please DO NOT change the auto assigned region.

Advanced Amazon Redshift: Table Layout and Schema Design

In this lab, you will take a close look at different types of table layout and schema design. You will create tables using various methods for data compression and distribution, and analyze which methods work best, including incorporating Amazon Redshift recommendations. You will conclude the lab by building five different versions of the same table, and analyzing how the differences impact storage requirements and query performance. Pre-requisites: To successfully complete this lab, you should be familiar with Redshift concepts by taking the "Introduction to Amazon Redshift" and "Working with Amazon Redshift" labs at qwiklabs.com. Knowledge of SQL programming is required, although full solution code is provided.

Advanced Amazon Redshift: Analytics and Amazon Machine Learning

In this lab, you will build a smart solution using Amazon Redshift and Amazon Machine Learning that predicts delays for flights originating in Chicago’s O’Hare international airport. You will learn how to analyze large amounts of data using Redshift. Then you will practice using Machine Learning to create a model that will predict flight delays. Prerequisites: To successfully complete this lab, you should be familiar with Redshift concepts by taking the introductory lab at qwiklabs.com. Some knowledge of SQL and Python programming is required, although full solution code is provided. You should be comfortable using RDP to connect to a Windows server and using SQL client software. You should have at a minimum taken the “Introduction to Amazon Redshift” and “Introduction to Machine Learning” labs at qwiklabs.com.

Advanced Amazon Redshift: Performance Tuning

In this lab, you will experiment with various methods to improve Redshift performance. You will work with tables using different data distribution parameters to compare performance. You will experiment with Redshift's columnar compression using a Python utility. Finally, you will observe the performance of long running queries in different queues, using Workload Management Parameter Groups.
