At step 31, the command might be ‘ecs-cli compose --file qwiklabs-compose.yml up’ instead of ‘ecs-cli compose --file qwiklabs-compose.yml service up’. Because the command, ‘ecs-cli compose --file qwiklabs-compose.yml service up’ generated an error as the follows: $ ecs-cli compose --file qwiklabs-compose.yml service up WARN[0000] Skipping unsupported YAML option... option name=volumes INFO[0000] Using ECS task definition TaskDefinition=ecscompose-ec2-user:1 INFO[0000] Created an ECS service service=ecscompose-service-ec2-user taskDefinition=ecscompose-ec2-user:1 FATA[0000] Please use 'create' command to create the service 'ecscompose-service-ec2-user' first When it changed to ‘ecs-cli compose --file qwiklabs-compose.yml up’, it worked properly as the expected: $ ecs-cli compose --file qwiklabs-compose.yml up WARN[0000] Skipping unsupported YAML option... option name=volumes INFO[0000] Using ECS task definition TaskDefinition=ecscompose-ec2-user:2 INFO[0000] Starting container... container=eb0228c0-1dc9-49de-927c-8062a53a6212/busybox INFO[0000] Starting container... container=eb0228c0-1dc9-49de-927c-8062a53a6212/simple-app INFO[0000] Describe ECS container status container=eb0228c0-1dc9-49de-927c-8062a53a6212/simple-app desiredStatus=RUNNING lastStatus=PENDING taskDefinition=ecscompose-ec2-user:2 INFO[0000] Describe ECS container status container=eb0228c0-1dc9-49de-927c-8062a53a6212/busybox desiredStatus=RUNNING lastStatus=PENDING taskDefinition=ecscompose-ec2-user:2 INFO[0012] Describe ECS container status container=eb0228c0-1dc9-49de-927c-8062a53a6212/simple-app desiredStatus=RUNNING lastStatus=PENDING taskDefinition=ecscompose-ec2-user:2 INFO[0012] Describe ECS container status container=eb0228c0-1dc9-49de-927c-8062a53a6212/busybox desiredStatus=RUNNING lastStatus=PENDING taskDefinition=ecscompose-ec2-user:2 INFO[0024] Started container... container=eb0228c0-1dc9-49de-927c-8062a53a6212/simple-app desiredStatus=RUNNING lastStatus=RUNNING taskDefinition=ecscompose-ec2-user:2 INFO[0024] Started container... container=eb0228c0-1dc9-49de-927c-8062a53a6212/busybox desiredStatus=RUNNING lastStatus=RUNNING taskDefinition=ecscompose-ec2-user:2 At step 39, it might be ‘ecs-cli compose --file qwiklabs-compose.yml service scale 2’, as the above.

Great quick lab! This helped me see how effective and straight forward the ECS service can be. Powerful, just a few commands and your up and running! I'm an evangelist... :)
