My URL didn't actually work. Everything else looked good, and I was able to pull up the created website via the EC2 public IP

a little more in-lab explanation of the 'simple' and 'failover' configurations would be useful. Also the 'registered dom.ain' name server list, not too much, just enough to clarify what they are and how the values get created/assigned (and why there are someone else's numbers already in there that we have to remove and re-enter). Otherwise an excellent introduction to Route 53.
