step 81 requires selecting 'create storage tiers on this virtual disk" option. must rescan storage to detect hdd/ssd media types first. step 85 will now show 'faster tier' and 'standard tier' sizing options. cannot choose maximum size, must select < than total available size of each disk to successfully create. zeroing out disk will take ~15 minutes and prevent client mounting until finished.
